The therapy works from the Tibetan Ayurvedic principle that if we calm and stabilize “The Life Sustaining Wind” residing in the top of the head, we harmonize the flow of energy throughout the body.
In Tibet two ancient teachings co-exist - the Buddhist religion and the Bon (Bu-un) both of which embrace Ayurveda. With Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage we are using acupressure points common to one or both of these teachings. |
Ayurveda is the basis of the traditional health system in South East Asia – thought to have originated in India some 3 – 5,000 years ago. It’s considered to be the oldest form of medicine.
In brief the Ayurvedic concept is to seek balance and harmony for the body and mind in order to prevent illness and disease. Traditionally balance of an individual’s “Humurs” or “Doshas” is achieved through following the advice of an Ayurvedic practitioner : advice on lifestyle, diet, meditation, taking of herbs and receiving massage are but a few of the principles applied.
For the purposes of this treatment we respect certain Ayurvedic beliefs but Ayurvedic practice is a very complex area so I will provide links to more detailed descriptions of the philosophy for those who wish to find out more. You may find it interesting to find out which constitution you have - these sites have an online questionnaire to help determine yours.

For a Tibetan Acupressure Head Massage you will remain fully clothed and recline on the massage couch covered with a warm blanket.
Recognisable Western massage strokes release muscular tension from the neck/shoulders prior to our commencing working with the Tibetan Bon points of the head, face and throat.
Gentle acupressure and a slow circling massage of specific Tibetan acupressure points is used to calm the "Life Sustaining Wind". According to traditional Tibetan Ayurveda this wind is the source of all our physical, psychological and spiritual energies.
The massage may be performed with or without oils. In keeping with the spirit of the treatment I offer warmed Ayurvedic Indian hair oils for your consideration or if it feels more appropriate I will blend essential oils with a carrier and warm them before application.
I will help you to select something suitable according to your consultation. The use of oils in the massage provides a fantastically nourishing scalp and hair treatment.
The session lasts approximately 1 hour and will leave you feeling very calm, relaxed and at peace with the world.
